Steve grew up on a cattle ranch along the scenic Kettle River in southern British Columbia, where ranch life, horses, hunting, and the outdoors shaped him from an early age. Before pursuing a career in law enforcement, he trained horses and competed in rodeos, living the cowboy lifestyle that still defines him today. In 1983, he joined the Cheyenne Police Department, serving 25 years in patrol, undercover, detective, firearms training, and as SWAT Commander. Following his law enforcement career, he worked overseas supporting Department of Defense operations in Iraq and around the world in security, counterterrorism, and tactical training roles. Today, Steve continues to live the Wyoming cowboy way of life, raising cattle, hunting, and drawing from a lifetime of real-world experience to bring authenticity to his western crime writing.
